Hot Tubs and Spas

Hot tubs and spas are small pools full of heated water that are used commonly for soaking and relaxation.  There are an array of different types and sizes of spas and hot tubs for nearly every purpose.  It is common for them to be placed outdoors, above ground, on decks and patios.  It is also common for individuals with large swimming pools to have a hot tub placed close to the pool in the ground.  Some individuals choose to house their tub or spa indoors in a sauna like relaxation room while other individuals merely replace their average bath tub with a more enhanced spa tub.  You can purchase tubs and spas in many different sizes.  Small tubs for individual use are available and larger tubs that seat 10-15 people are also available.  Regardless of your needs there is a type of hot tub or spa for you.

There are typically two different styles of tubs and spas.  Most commonly a wooden tub is referred to as a hot tub. The outer shell of these tubs is made from wood to create a more natural look while the actual tub us usually made from a plastic shell.  Spas are commonly refers to the type of tub that is completely made of plastic.  Regardless of the type of spa or hot tub they use some sort of heating system and a pump is used to allow the warmed water to flow through the tub.  Tubs also commonly are fitted with jets for relaxation and massaging.  Lights are also common in both tubs and spas for safety and visual purposes.

Hot tubs and spas are often regarded as being extremely poor with energy efficiency.  Actually if they are insulated correctly then they are extremely efficient.  The only parts of the tub that actually uses energy is the pump and the heater.  If the tub is properly cared for with chemicals and a cover that greatly lowers the functions of both the pump and heater.  Another concern of spas and tubs is sanitation and health issues.  If not used properly spas and tubs can cause severe bacterial and repertory infections.  Bacteria thrive in warm places, especially water. Because of this it is extremely important to use proper chemicals in your tub to prevent infection in users.
